Testing the Accuracy of the Cell-Set Model Applied on Vane-Type Sub-Boundary Layer Vortex Generators

Vortex Generators (VGs) are applied before the expected region of separation boundary layer in order to delay or remove flow separation. Although their height is usually similar that layer, some applications, lower VGs used, Sub-Boundary Layer (SBVGs), since this reduces drag coefficient. Numerical simulations sub-boundary vane-type vortex generators on a flat plate negligible pressure gradient were conducted using fully resolved mesh model and cell-set model, with aim assessing accuracy Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence modelling techniques. The implementation has supposed savings 40% terms computational time. vortexes generated wake behind VG; vortical structure primary vortex; its path, size, strength, produced wall shear stress have been studied. results show good agreements between meshing models higher VGs, but slight discrepancies ones. These disparities more pronounced LES. Further study proposed, entails great time resources savings.
